1 pound lean ground
beef
¾ pound ground
Italian sausage meat
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Spanish onion, 1/4-inch
dice
4 garlic cloves, peeled and
thinly sliced
1 tablespoon dried oregano
¼ tsp crushed red
pepper
1 (28-ounce) cans peeled
whole tomatoes, crushed by hand
1 (28-ounce) can
crushed tomatoes
½ cup fresh parsley,
chopped
Whole basil leaves, for
garnish
Salt and pepper to
taste
Cooked Pasta, 1
pound package, cooked
Directions
1.
Heat a large,
heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat.
Add 2 Tbs of the oil, ground beef, and sausage meat. Cook, stirring occasionally until the meat
is browed. Drain the meat to remove
the extra fat. Set the meat aside.
2.
While the pot is cool, add the remaining oil,
onion, and garlic. Heat the pot over medium-low heat and cook until the onion
is soft, about 8 to 10 minutes.
3.
Add the
tomatoes, cooked meat, dried oregano, and crushed red pepper. Allow the sauce
to a gently bubble, stirring often. Lower the heat and continue to simmer for
30 minutes.
4.
Just before
serving, stir in the basil and fresh parsley.
Season with salt and pepper and serve.
